86 New Phone Boxes planned for West End

The Evening Standard reports that there are plans for 86 new phone boxes to be installed across the West End. 18 are earmarked for Oxford Street alone, with others in Piccadilly, Strand, Buckingham Palace Road and Baker Street as well as Covent Garden and Marylebone High Street. Concentrating increasing passenger numbers in one location will only compound many of the existing problems. Living under the flight path will certainly not help our local air quality. The main issue will be aircraft noise. If you want to know what it will sound like take a walk in Battersea Park as this will be a similar height that the planes will fly over Marylebone and Mayfair. It might make a welcome change to the helicopter noise we routinely suffer, especially on summer evenings.
