Better Oxford Street Campaign calls for consultation response opposing pedestrianisation

TfL have now launched their consultation on Oxford Street pedestrianisation. The weight of their guidance on the subject appears to lean heavily in favour of closure, if not 24 hours at least for most of the day, opening late evening to allow for deliveries at night time, so that it can be claimed as "partial closure”.

Lancaster Gate - Travel disruption mid May to early June

There will be temporary changes on certain roads in the Lancaster Gate area from 15 May until early June. This is while Tfl undertake final works on this section of the East-West Cycle Superhighway, to help improve safety for all road users.

Oxford St Consultation - Significant implications for Marylebone

A consultation on the future of Oxford Street has begun. This “Transformation” project is aimed at improving the street and helping to cope with the predicted increase in visitors with the arrival of Crossrail. It is, however, taking place in the light of the Mayor’s wish to pedestrianise Oxford Street, initially from Orchard Street to Oxford Circus, with the rest to follow soon afterwards. We have previously expressed great concern at the potential for such a scheme to blight our area with much of the traffic that presently uses Oxford Street.
