Licensing

The 2003 Licensing Act which came into force in 2006 fundamentally changed the way licensed premises including bars, clubs, restaurants and shops are able to operate, particularly in the hours which they may open. Late opening bars and clubs can have a major detrimental impact on the neighbours of these premises.

The issuing of licenses is now the responsibility of local councils which in the case of Marylebone is Westminster City Council. Many licensed premises are taking advantage the new act to increase their opening hours. The Association’s stance is to object to any license that is outside core hours.

The Association monitors all new applications and objecting in cases where we feel it is necessary for the benefit of residents. However under the new Act the Association itself cannot object, only individual residents who may be affected by a change in a license can do so. However we will lend our support and offer advice to anyone who wishes to object to a particular license application. If you have an issue with particular licensed premises, please send the details to us at licensing@marylebone.org
