F Zone Parking Spaces
Thank you so much to everyone who sent in suggestions for additional space for potential resident parking bays. These have been sent to the Council, along with our comments on the proposals which Westminster City Council had made for increasing the number of parking bays in F zone. It looks as though a number of additional spaces may be approved, which will help reduce the frustration for residents struggling to find parking near their homes.Old Quebec and Seymour Street
You may have noticed works being undertaken at the junction between Old Quebec and New Quebec Streets. This is in order to provide a zebra crossing over Seymour Street. We have welcomed this development (an initiative part funded by the Portman Estate, who are also proposing a crossing at the northern end of New Quebec Street) as it can be very difficult to cross at these points. We have objected, however, to a proposed one-way working of Old Quebec Street. Thank you to those who gave comment - all objections - most in favour of continued two way working and some suggesting that northbound one way would be preferable to southbound one way, in the light of the blockages often experienced on Great Cumberland Place and the need to access the Marks and Spencer collection point.
A41 Proposals
We are still discussing the proposed trial system of banning traffic from Oxford Street between Marble Arch and Orchard Street. Those of you living on George Street or nearby will have noticed a recent increase in traffic at night with the bus diversions which have been in operation to cope with works on Oxford Street. We are keen to ensure that any temporary Oxford Street diversions do not set a precedent and become permanent!
Coach Ban Areas
If you see coaches in the areas covered by a coach ban, when they are clearly using the residential streets to cut through rather than to gain access to an hotel, for example, do report them to Westminster City Council - or to us and we can pass on their details. The information needed is the registration number, the coach company, date, time, and the contravention. The Council and the Police have been following up our complaints with the coach companies, who penalise drivers who
flout the rules.
