The pollution is measured by the volume of micro carbon particulates in the air, which are a major cause for concern for those suffering breathing problems (as was illustrated by Dr. David Green of King's College London, at the Marylebone Association's recent AGM). The results are largely attributable to the air quality on the Marylebone Road, and compounded by traffic on Baker Street, Gloucester Place and buses and taxis on Oxford Street.

TfL and Westminster City Council urgently need to come up with radical measures to reduce the problem in our area and show a public commitment to improving air quality in our area. They also need to get pedestrian crossing of the Marylebone Road made a priority, and not leave pedestrians stranded in the middle of the road soaking up traffic pollution – that is a case for planting more trees, but not using our "bronchial trees" to do the dirty work.
