Living in the centre of London does have its drawbacks, one major one is the amount of traffic both motorised and human passing through our area
The Association works in a objective and realistic way with the various public bodies who have responsibility for keeping London moving. We are particularly concerned with the affects on residents and local businesses of the effects of the congestion charge. While the stated aims of reducing congestion and pollution via road pricing is one way, we believe there are more imaginative and fairer ways of reducing congestion and resulting pollution for local residents and businesses.
We are also concerned about the closing of Oxford Street to traffic on various days each year with the resulting traffic chaos in surrounding streets. We are working hard with Westminster City council officials to minimise the disruption to local residents.
Public Transport
We fully support most of the public transport initiatives for London including Cross Rail proposal which we believe will bring great benefit to the centre of London by reducing the amount of cross-city traffic on our roads. However, we are concerned like many of our neighbouring areas about the proposed construction and the impact the works will have on our local environment
We are also concerned about the lack of consultation with local residents when new traffic and transport plans are drawn by Transport for London (Tfl). We actively lobby both TFL and local council officials for more consultations with local people when deciding on new measures.
